xv.) What types of AHA’s can be used?

The most common AHA’s are:

Glycolic Acid – which is found in sugar cane
Citric Acid – found in citrus fruits
Malic Acid – from unrippened apples
Lactic Acid – from sour milk
Tartaric Acid – from grapes

xvi.) What are the effects of AHA’s?

Many people who suffer from acne, dry skin, fine lines and wrinkles, scarring and uneven skin tones will benefit from using AHA’s.

AHA’s can irritate the skin if the concentration level is too high. Between 4% and 7% AHA’s are said to be mild and can be used by all skin types, however a patch test is recommended. AHA’s may cause tingling and redness/burning sensations which usually mean the level of AHA’s in that product to too high (concentrated).

We recommend using Skin Doctor’s Gamma Hydroxy for a gentle skin resurfacing, slightly uneven colouring, blotchy and dead dull skin. This is suitable for all skin types but will particularly benefit ageing, dry and oily skin types. Uneven skin textures can be caused by dull, dry surface cells, rough skin, sun damaged skin, acne scarring and environmental ageing. In order to slough off the dead skin cells for a more youthful glow, scrubs, masks and skin resurfacing creams can be used.

xviii.) What causes capillary damage?

The most common reason for broken capillaries is sun damage. Capillaries also age over time with the tissues supporting these vessels weakening; therefore the capillary walls become more fragile and prone to rupture. With age, skin tends to become thinner and loses some of the protective fatty tissue. This is why it is vitality important to protect your skin against the harmful effects of the sun.

xix.) How to treat broken capillaries?

  • Stay out of the sun and cut down on eating highly spicy foods.
  • Cutting down on your alcohol intake will help reduce reddening of the cheeks.

This cream eliminates the appearance of broken capillaries by repairing the damaged capillary wall once the vein is healed; the dried blood on the outside of the capillaries dissolves. The most important ingredient is Phytonadione (vitamin K1) which is essential for coagulation and health of the capillaries.

xx.) Why have I got dark circles under my eyes?

The main causes of under eye circles include-

  • Hereditary condition – the skin under the eye is very thin, usually an inherited trait from the rest of your family
  • Sun damage – this can cause higher levels of melanin under the eyes especially in summer. Exposure to the sun increases the natural pigmentation of the skin.
  • Medication – e.g. the pill can cause blood vessels to dilate leading to darkening under the eyes as this is a very delicate area
  • Pregnancy and menstruation – skin can become more pale throughout these times
  • Allergies, Asthma and Eczema – any condition that may cause your eyes to itch contribute to dark circles. Some food allergies may also cause the area to appear darker.
  • Nutrition – lack of key nutrients and a balanced diet can contribute to discolouration.
  • Fatigue, lack of sleep - excessive tiredness may cause paleness of the skin.
  • Age – As you grow older and are susceptible to dark eyes they will become more noticeable.

xxi.) What can I do to prevent dark circles?

  • Skin Doctors Circle Clear contains Bearberry, a natural skin lightener that can fade the visible discolouration caused by pigmentation. It also contains ingredients that work to repair and strengthen capillaries and disperse the dried blood that shows up as dark circles. Moisturisers and herbs that help with circulation also serve to protect this delicate eye area from further damage.
  • Drink plenty of water and eat healthily.
  • Make sure you receive enough sleep i.e. at least 8 hours per night.
  • Protect your skin against the sun; an SPF of at least 15 should be used to prevent capillary damage and ageing skin.

ii.) How do I treat wrinkles around my eyes?

Wrinkles around the eyes are more apparent in smokers and those who do not take care of their skin, this is due to finer and more delicate skin in this area

iii.) Does natural sun really age skin?

UV light is the cause of 80-90% of ageing. UV rays from the sun dehydrates the body and skin and overexposure can cause skin cancers. It is vitally important to protect your skin, especially the face from UV rays. It is recommended to use sun protection and moisturiser if always outdoors this will help prevent wrinkles and skin damage

  • Additional problem solving creams may be used from a well recognised brand such as Skin Doctors.

vi.) Why do I get Undereye Bags?

Again as part in parcel of the ageing process ladies tend to get undereye bags. They are caused by the skin loosing its elasticity and stretching with globules of fat distributed through the weakened layer of tissue. This causes the puffiness in the upper and lower lids

Sometimes if fluid is retained in the body, the bags under eyes get even bigger. Occasionally medical conditions that cause fluid retention such as heart, thyroid, kidney and liver problems as well as high blood pressure and premenstrual bloating may be a reason for the bags under eyes.

Eyetuck contains Eyseryl which is designed to reduce puffiness around the eye area. Eyetuck helps visibly decongest the under eye area by aiding lymphatic drainage and removing the appearance of excess fluid, because the delicate skin of this area is naturally thinner and therefore more prone to ageing. Eyetuck also contains Shea Butter and Apricot oil to keep the skin moistened and conditioned.

7. Body

i.) What is cellulite?

Cellulite is a series of ripples of fat cells and connective tissue under the skin. Cellulite is most commonly found on women on the thighs, buttocks and occasionally under the arms. This is sometimes referred to as ‘the orange peel effect’ or ‘cottage cheese look’. Cellulite is said to be the cause of composition of fat cells and connective tissue. Men tend to have less fat on the thighs and the outer layer of skin, thus making it more common to women. Some believe it is caused by excess toxins in the body, excess fat also shows a clear association with cellulite. Excess fat can affect the pressure put on connective tissue causing ripples and less tautness of the skin.

ii.) What does Kudos recommend for reducing cellulite?

There is no cure for cellulite however here are a few tips:-

  • STOP Smoking this cause excess toxins to build up in the body.
  • If over weight loose weight slowly and sensibly through controlled methods.
  • Drink more water to help flush out toxins.
  • Eat at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables per day including foods high in fibre.

  • Avoid medication that is not necessary.
  • Reduce fat intake, coffee and highly processed foods.
  • Additional methods such as creams and beauty treatments can be used in aid of the above.

iii.) Which Creams and Treatments are available for cellulite?

There are a lot of creams on the market today. Do not choose any cream that claims to get rid of cellulite as that will never happen! Use a recognised brand which will have had tests completed. Creams with Gota Kola and Aloe Vera will be of best quality and will be helpful.

We recommend using Skin Doctors Lipolene, which is a powerful gel with 9 breakthrough ingredients. Xanthenes (caffeine & cocoa) help the body speed up fat burning where the gel is applied, reducing the expansion and stretching of skin.
Forskolin is a herbal fat loss agent and seaweed improves the skins’ elasticity, tones, firms and helps to prevent cellulite forming. Gotu Kola works to strengthen connective tissues by stimulating the bodys’ production of the ground substance that keeps collegen firmly locked in place, Aloe Vera helps to balance the PH level in the skin acting as a protecting and soothing agent. Lipolene also contains Rosemary Oil, Salicylic Acid and Apple Extract. Lipolene must be used twice daily and massaged into the skin for upto 8 weeks!

  • an increase in metabolism
  • nourish and redefine skin texture
  • enhance cellulite breakdown
  • remove toxins
  • tone and firm
  • help diminish stretch marks
  • reduce appearance of cellulite

iv.) What are pigmentation spots?

The skin cells in your epidermis naturally produce melanin, a dark substance that helps to absorb UV rays. This serves as your skins’ natural UV protection - that's why darker-skinned people don't get sun-damaged the same way paler-skinned people do.

When your skin is repeatedly or heavily exposed to UVB rays, the melanin-producing cells lose their ability to distribute pigment evenly, so dark spots (hyper pigmentation) appear on the skin (also known as liver spots).

v.) How can I prevent pigmentation?

The best thing you can do is to avoid sun exposure, as any pigmentation (even that resulting from pregnancy) will tend to be made worse by the sun. The second-best thing you can do is to wear a very high SPF broad-spectrum sunscreen every day, and reapply it regularly. Hydrascreen is an excellent protective moisturiser.

You may also benefit from use of topical antioxidants, especially Vitamin C, which can help your skin to fight off the damaging effects of sun exposure.

vi.) How can I reduce pigmentation if I've already got it?

AHA’s, (alpha-hydroxy acids) in skincare will help to exfoliate the upper layers of skin, thus helping to remove dead skin allowing new and more healthy skin to come through.

Bearberry, Mulberry and Cranberry Extracts and Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (a form of Vitamin C). Creams containing Tretinoin, a form of Vitamin A (e.g. Retin-A, Renova) are available on prescription, and can help to reduce uneven skin tone, especially in combination with Hydroquinone. You should be very careful to avoid the sun if using Tretinoin, as it makes the skin photosensitive. Retinol is a non-prescription alternative form of Vitamin A, and while it is not proven to have the same effect as Tretinoin, there is some evidence to suggest that it may be of benefit in evening out skin tone.

Skin Doctors Dermabrite may be used on the face and Fade Away on the body, back of hands etc.

Chemical peels and laser treatments are the last resort if you are finding that your pigmentation is too deep to be effectively treated by any of the above methods.

vii.) What are varicose veins?

Women tend to acquire varicose veins more than men due to the makeup of the skin. This also tends to occur in older women up to the age of 60. Heredity may be cause however this has not been proven.

  • Poor diet and a lack of fibre is said to cause various veins. If people have problems passing stools or tend to be constipated then blood flow etc can be restricted to the legs.
  • Pregnant women can also be susceptible to veins in their legs and those whose tend to sit with their legs crossed constantly.
  • Working situation – standing up for long periods of time in one place is said to cause veins e.g. factory workers.
  • Height can sometimes be a contributing factor; taller people tend to acquire more varicose veins.
  • Tight clothing may also have an effect.

Most people have ‘primary varicose veins’ – the usual kind that develop for no very obvious reason. A very few people get ‘secondary varicose veins as a result of deep vein thrombosis blocking the deep veins, tumors in the pelvis pressing on the leg veins, or rare congenital problems with the arteries and veins.

viii.) How to prevent and treat varicose veins?

  • avoid standing still for long periods of time.
  • take regular exercise, such as walking.
  • maintain a healthy weight.
  • wear properly fitted compression stockings to prevent further deterioration of existing varicose veins.
  • Vein Away cream may be used. Vein Away contains vitamins, nutrients and herbs that are essential for vein health. Vitamin K1,Calendula, Aloe Vera, Allantoin and Lavender aid the healing of damaged capillaries. Vitamin C and Gingko Biloba have an antioxidant action to nourish and sustain strong and healthy veins. Retinol renews the appearance of the skin.
  • Do not sit with legs crossed as this disrupts circulation.

ix.) Vein Away

Firstly the natural ingredients penetrate through the epidermal layers of the skin reaching the ruptured wall of the capillary to assist in its coagulation and healing. Secondly, Vein Away maintains the elasticity and the health of the vein. Thirdly, Vein Away’s active combination of ingredients disperse dried blood on the surrounding capillaries to reduce the appearance of spider veins.
Vein Away should be applied twice daily over the affected area. For best results, apply Vein Away to warm skin after wrapping the area with a warm towel, since opening the pores allow the formulation to penetrate the skin more effectively. With regular use, spider veins can be minimised in a matter of weeks.

x.) What are ingrown Hairs?

Ingrown hairs occur when hair curls and penetrates the skin with its tip, causing inflammation. Most common symptoms of an ingrown hair is inflammation (red and sore skin) followed by pus, sometimes leading to bleeding and itchiness.

  • Treat with active ingredients (salicylic acid).
  • Exfoliate to improve the skins surface.
  • Adjust your shaving technique and avoid shaving too closely.
  • Treat ingrown hairs with allontoin and witch hazel.

We recommend using Skin Doctors Ingrow Go which can give results within 2 days. In order to remove ingrown hair, dap a little on a piece of cotton wool ov er the infected area. Also if ingrown hairs persist use a few hours before a shave to prevent ingrown hairs. Continue to use an exfoliator which will help prevent ingrown hairs, will help improve problem skin such as blackheads and clogged pores. Studies show that regular exfoliation will reduce chances of skin cancers forming later in life. This should be carried out twice per week.

xii.) How to prevent hair regrowth

Firstly, waxing or cream removal (Skin Doctors Hair No More depilatory cream) is the best way to remove hairs from the body, this allows the hair follicle to be completely removed.

After hair removal, by using Hair No More Inhibitor Spray or Bio Depiless products which starve the hair at the roots, preventing hair cells from germinating thus slowing hair growth.

This requires continual use to reach the desired affect, however if hair should grow back it will be finer, sparser and lighter.

xiii.) What is exfoliation?

Exfoliation is a technique used to remove dead skin cells from the body. Everyone exfoliates naturally, with hundreds of dead skin cells falling off the body every minute. However we should all exfoliate at least once a week to keep our skin from looking dull, dry and reduces the risks of skin cancers.

xiv.) How to do a body scrub and the benefits?

The benefits of a body scrub include:

  • Smoothing and softening the skin by buffing the surface, removing rough skin, debris and unwanted dead skin cells
  • Stimulates the blood lymphatic flow and encourages normal sebaceous activity. Aids nutrient uptake as well as aiding healing of skin tissue
  • Allows new healthy skin cells to come through and reduces the chances of skin cancers developing.
  • After a body scrub this will increase absorption of moisturiser.
  • If tanning will help absorption of tan and prevent the scaly effect when wearing off.

To exfoliate effectively use Bali Sun Fruit Zest with Exfoliating Gloves to wash and exfoliate all over the body for at least 15 minutes paying particular attention to elbows, knees and dry areas.

Exfoliating will prevent ingrown hairs and the clogging of pores. This should be repeated twice per week, continuing with Tea Tree Soap to remove grime and dirt leaving more soft and youthful skin.

i.) What SPF should I use?

The SPF number only applies to the UVB (screening) action of the sunscreen. For example, when using sunscreen with a SPF15 you can spend fifteen times longer in the sun before becoming sunburnt. The SPF does not apply to UVA sunscreens so even a product with a SPF25 but with no UVA screen will less effective than a product with a lower SPF but with a UVA screen. When buying sunscreen look for a cream that has a high SPF factor, with both a UVA+B block to ensure maximum protection.

  • with an SPF of 15 or above - this will give you over 90% protection.
  • 'broad spectrum' - to protect against UVA and UVB.
  • water resistant - it is less likely to wash or be sweated off.
  • valid 'use by' date - most sunscreens have a shelf life of 2-3 years.
  • you don't have to pay for expensive brands. All types are tested and the cheaper brands are just as effective if used properly - just remember factor 15+.

ii.) Tips for using sunscreen properly.

  • try to apply it 15-30 minutes before going out in the sun.
  • apply to clean, dry skin and rub in only lightly.
  • use generous amounts.
  • re-apply once outside to ensure even coverage.
  • then re-apply every 2 hours or more frequently if washed, rubbed or sweated off.
  • put on before make-up, moisturiser, insect repellent etc.
  • never use it to spend longer in the sun - this will put you at risk of sun damage that could lead to skin cancer.

iii.) How to Tan with sunbeds safely and effectively

  • Always wear eye protection
  • Use a moisturising tanning accelerator (Fahrenheat, lotions)
  • Use products with aloe vera, to prevent ageing (we recommend Fahrenheat lotions)
  • When using tingle products – only use on legs (where the skin is tighter and thicker) never on the face!
  • Only ever use sunbeds for the recommended time according to your skin tone.
  • Remember all sunbed tubes have different strengths, therefore best to check the recommended time every session.
  • Never use sunbeds everyday, there is no need as the tanning process will last up to 48hours.

iv.) Beneficial effects of sunbeds

  • Feel Good Factor from dark and dire days. The light can help SAD syndrome
  • Warming effect can ease muscle and give pain relief
  • A base tan from sunbeds can help prevent burning in the natural sunlight!

It’s a true fact that too much sun is bad for your skin. It makes you wrinkly and can even lead to skin cancer. However most of us feel and look better with a bit of a golden glow. With this in mind the safest, cheapest and quickest way to get that golden glow has to be one of the new and easiest express liquid tan.

What is He-Shi and how does it work?
He-Shi is an express liquid tan, which tans on contact with the skin. Unlike most fake tans you can actually see it going on, so you know instantly that no parts have been left uncovered. The result is no streaking and no white bits.

Is He-Shi suitable for everyone?
He-Shi is suitable for all skin types however for first time users a patch test is recommended on the forearm 24 hours before full application, particularly if you have sensitive skin.

Do I need to moisturise first?
Moisturiser can act as a barrier, therefore you should not moisturise immediately before tanning, however it is important to exfoliate before tanning. Also bear in mind any waxing or shaving should be carried out at least 24 hours before applying the tan.
Modern world propose us many blackjack online casinos to play all the variants of this card games.

Will it get darker?
It will look slightly darker overnight, however if a deeper colour is required, just apply a further coat. This can be done immediately after the first coat has dried out, or the next day.

When can I wash?
It is best to leave a minimum of 5 to 7 hours before showering, but overnight is best. Some surface bronzer will wash off on the first shower. After this He-Shi will not wash off.

How long will it last?
It fades naturally like a real tan and will last approximately 4-5 days.

It is a sunscreen?
No. You should take normal precautions during exposure to the natural sun.

Does He-Shi smell?
It does not smell foul or have any nausea inducing fragrances.

Can Men and Women use He-Shi?
He-Shi is also popular with men and has no sex boundaries. It does not stick to mens body hair as it is a liquid.

How do I apply He-Shi?
You can apply with a make up sponge or cotton wool using a rubber glove to protect the hands from staining, however we recommend a Velvotan Applicator which is a glove mitt. These glove mitts are available in 2 sizes, small one for the face and a larger mitt for the body. They provide extremely smooth and easy application and are also machine washable for repeated use.

What about problem areas?
Use lightly over knees, elbows, back of heels, i.e. dry areas of skin as these retain more of the moisturise and appear darker.

Does it stain clothes?
No. It can rub off on clothes immediately after application, but this should not happen after the first shower. It is best therefore to wear loose dark clothing immediately after application.

How soon can I dress after application?
He-Shi will dry in 5 minutes so you can dress immediately. No more need to wait around naked for 20/30 minutes.

vi.) How should I prepare for a fake tan application?

  • Remove unwanted hair 24hours before tanning to allow the skin to calm down.
  • Exfoliate (How do I exfoliate?)
  • Moisturise (24 hours in advance ) not the same day as tanning as this will prevent the tan from being absorbed.
  • Apply Self Tan starting with lower legs, arms, body and leave the face until last
  • Let it dry!
  • After showering 8 hours and if possible leave until next morning, use a hydrating moisturiser with a tint of DHA to help keep the tan flawless for longer. Bali Sun Hydrating …
